The Latino Pilots Association (LPA) is committed to our community by providing opportunities in aviation. LPA has established key partnerships with both aviation- and non-aviation-related organizations and companies that allow us to make scholarships available to a diverse group of recipients. These scholarships help recipients further their careers in aviation-related fields.

What scholarships are available?

The LPA offers various scholarship opportunities to those pursuing a career in aviation. In the past, LPA has offered flight training and aviation maintenance scholarships to support a deserving applicant in their aviation journey.

Who can apply?

Each LPA scholarship includes eligibility requirements specific to each scholarship. We encourage all those who meet the requirements to apply.

Do I have to be a current member of LPA to apply?

Yes, your LPA membership must be active to apply. To join or renew your membership, please visit the “Join Now” section on our website.

I am not of Hispanic ethnicity, am I still able to apply for a scholarship?

Yes, LPA does not limit our scholarship applicants to any one demographic and encourages all to apply.

When can I apply?

To apply for an LPA scholarship, please visit the “Scholarships” section on our website to view all available scholarship applications and deadlines.

If I am an International Student, can I apply for a scholarship?

When applying for the United Aviate Scholarships, you must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident. All other scholarships will specify eligibility requirements.

Who should I ask to write me a Letter of Recommendation?

A Professor, current or former teacher, current or former employer, current or former flight instructor, a mentor, school counselor, advisor leaders of an organization you have volunteered with. Recommendations from current LPA members are encouraged. DO NOT ASK: Family or Friends

Letters should be addressed to the Scholarship Committee

What should my Letter of Recommendation include?

Letters of Recommendation allow the scholarship committee to gain further insight into the character and qualities of an applicant. The letter of recommendation should demonstrate an applicant’s strengths, accomplishments, and potential to succeed. It is important that each letter of recommendation is catered to a specific scholarship and provides examples of meaningful events.

Do I have to be enrolled at an aviation school to be able to apply?

To apply for a flight training scholarship, an applicant must be accepted or currently attending a flight training program. Flight training programs must be completed through a university/college or an approved flight school. If a scholarship is not intended for flight training, other requirements will be specified.

I didn’t win a scholarship this year. Can I re-apply again in the future?

Yes, we highly encourage you to update your scholarship application and re-apply.

Is there a limit on how many scholarships I can apply to?

There is no limit on the number of scholarships you can apply to (unless noted on the application form) as long as you meet the eligibility requirements for each one.

I applied for an LPA Scholarship, when will I hear back?

Once our scholarship committee has reviewed all applications, the selected finalists or winning recipient(s) will be contacted. Our scholarship application review process can take between 2-6 weeks upon closing of the application cycle.

How do I receive my scholarship funds? When can I utilize the scholarship funds?

An awarded scholarship will be paid directly to your education institution or designated flight school for immediate use. No funds are to be distributed to any student or scholarship recipient.

I previously won an LPA scholarship, am I able to apply for another scholarship?

Yes, if you meet the eligibility requirements for an upcoming scholarship, we encourage you to apply.
